NedRailways – in equal partnership with Serco - has been invited to submit a tender for the award of the Tyne & Wear Metro franchise in Northeast England.
NedRailways already operates two successful rail franchises in the UK in equal partnership with Serco. In 2003 the partnership began operation of the 25-year Merseyrail franchise, serving the inner and outer urban areas of Liverpool. In 2004 the partnership won the Northern Rail franchise which is the biggest train franchise in the UK, serving the key cities and conurbations of Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, York and Newcastle with a variety of inter-urban, regional, commuter and rural services.
NedRailways also has bus and rail operations in Germany through Abellio GmbH, operating services in several Federal States, and bus operations in the Czech Republic through Probo Trans Beroun, providing bus operations West of Prague.
