Dr Paul Salveson, Head of Government and Community Strategies at Northern Rail, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. Paul has been recognised for his services to the rail industry.
This is a hugely well-deserved honour for Paul, who has spent a large part of his working life championing the role that public transport and particularly rail can play in the economic and social life of communities.
Paul played a leading role in the formation in the late 1990’s of the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACoRP) to act as the federal body for Community Rail Partnerships, and took up the post of General Manager. The success of ACoRP in making the case for community rail was recognised in 2004 when the Government launched the Community Rail Development Strategy.
Paul joined Northern in 2005. He leads Northern Rail’s liaison with MPs, with key regional stakeholders, and getting involved with the communities we serve. He is known and respected throughout the industry for his expert knowledge, passion and desire to make a difference.
Paul’s award is the latest honour for Northern Rail employees, following the MBEs awarded to Atholl Swanston and Chris Leech last year and Ray Bainbridge in 2004.
