Bart Schmeink brings has background in rail passenger and freight operations and also rail infrastructure management in the Netherlands.
Bart started his career at the Dutch Department for Transport, where one of his responsibilities was as an adviser on the European proposals for the liberalisation of national rail networks.
He joined the management team of Railion, the Dutch freight operator, where he was responsible for the delivery of an efficiency programme which reduced costs in the business by without loss of performance or capacity.
This was followed by a move to ProRail, the Dutch equivalent of Network Rail, where he became Managing Director of Infrastructure Management with responsibility for the functional performance of the infrastructure of the Dutch national railway network. His primary role at that time was to achieve higher network performance against lower costs, while improving the infrastructure performance in line with Government requirements.
